Happy anniversary to my favourite game in the world, Bloodborne! This game has touched my heart in ways no other has and has shaped me so much as an artist. Not drawing something this year for it would be a great sin on my behalf LOL.

Bloodborne is my favourite game because it, like others I’ve mentioned, plays on all the themes I enjoy working with in my own illustrations and stories-- actually I think it was the first game that kind of “positioned” these interests for me-- Body horror and metamorphosis, eternal recurrence, cosmic horror, dreams, surrealism, so on so forth. The idea of tampering with things you shouldn’t be and suffering the consequences for it, as well as seeking knowledge to the point of irreversible damage to oneself has become one of my favourite themes to dive into and play into. Often I find myself thinking back to the idea of transcendence into godliness in this game and how, at least to me, it’s just one big metaphor for ego and how it can destroy a man-- in this case, turning people into monsters and ridding them of their humanity, whether it be by their own hand or at the mercy of someone else’s malice.
This game also plays on interesting themes regarding womanhood and illustrates it through horror. There’s an interesting theory out there in where the blood in the process of blood ministration comes from, as well as what “old blood” is, and whatnot… I won’t get into it, but I think it’s pretty valid considering the fact that all the special blood vials you get in the game are from women, and certain ones stop giving blood once particular events take place. Hell, if you take a look at some of the blood-related items, they look rather “peculiar”, don’t they? Let’s also not get started on the whole theme of motherhood in this game-- but I will say it’s very similar to Silent Hill 3 that way!
I feel like I could say so much more about the things in this game I really like, but I shouldn’t ramble too long LOL.
